The End of Teen Talaq is Here

Finally The Supreme Court of India puts a verdict on Teen Talaq system which initially was not disclosed for the people after a long running 8 day hearing ,later on announced as  a ban on TEEN TALAQ system for initial 6 months. 

The Supreme Court has ordered to ban the Triple Talaq with an immediate effect. The top court also asked the Parliament to bring in a new law to govern this issue within 6 months.


A five-judge bench comprising of Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar, Justice Kurian Joseph, Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman, Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice S Abdul Nazeer – all from different religious communities including Sikh, Christian, Parsi, Hindu and Muslim – heard seven pleas, including five separate petitions, filed by Muslim women challenging the prevalent practice of Triple Talaq.
Uttarakhand-based Shayara Bano was the first to file a petition in the Top Most Court of India challenging the constitutional validity of Triple Talaq. 

The Talaq-e-biddat was being practiced for over 1000 years so you can imagine that the thought of putting a question on its validity is itself a big call, but finally a new chapter has been added in the history.


Even the Supreme Court mentioned that its a "Worst" form of dissolution of a marriage in muslim community.The government had termed all the three forms of divorce among the Muslim community - talaq-e-biddat, talaq hasan and talaq ahsan, as "unilateral" and "extra-judicial"

 We all hope that The Government of India will bring a solid Constitutional law that can prevent such practices in the future.
